Sue Hasenyager, who survived the 1990 F-5 tornado that tore through Plainfield, recently talked to Thomas Jefferson Elementary School third graders about her experience. She also brought artifacts from the time including a clock from Plainfield High School that stopped when the tornado hit it. Her talk coincided with the units on weather and local history.
The presentations delivered by our 4th-grade students at the Wax Museum were exemplary.
We are pleased to share the students who have been selected as recipients of the Athletic Character Award in the 5th grade. The students in Mrs. Heitz's second-grade class enjoyed the warm and sunny weather while eating snacks and reading outside.
Thank you to all the families who joined us for our multicultural night. It was a wonderful event where we celebrated and acknowledged the diverse cultures within our community. Additionally, we want to commend our 4th graders for their exceptional recorder performance. Special thanks to the families who contributed by preparing food and sharing artifacts and information about their culture.
We would like to express our gratitude to our learning community for their generous contributions to the Paws Up 4 Rescue fundraiser. As a result of your support, we were able to donate $1155 to the animal shelter on behalf of Kiko. Thank you for your kindness and for making a positive difference in our community.

Mrs. Wons' class is learning about plants and their life cycle. They dissected seeds and learned about the parts of a seed.
We are mourning the loss of Tom Hernandez longtime Director of Community Relations who passed away April 15, 2024.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Glenn Wood said Hernandez was a thoughtful, caring person representing District 202 proudly and professionally.
“Tom Hernandez was a true champion for District 202 and was well known for his professionalism, positive attitude, and big heart. He was known as “The Voice” of 202 because he made the school cancellation phone calls and often served as emcee for district and other events. Hernandez’s legacy is one of compassion and community. He will be deeply missed.”
