The 71st Annual Plainfield Community Homecoming Parade, themed “Toyland” will step off at 9 a.m. Saturday, September 30, 2023.
The parade will come through downtown Plainfield led by this year’s Grand Marshal, Bill Pommerening.
The Community Homecoming Parade features entries from all grade levels.
Pommerening is a 1970 Plainfield High School graduate. The life-long resident of Plainfield owned the company, Valley Concrete.
He has donated his time and materials over the years to help support numerous community projects including, St. Mary Immaculate Parish, the Veterans Memorial Project, and the C.W. Avery Family YMCA.
His company was also instrumental in helping with the clean-up after the 1990 tornado.
He is also an active supporter of District 202 high school athletics and Plainfield youth programs. He also served as co-chair for the opening of the Edward Cancer Center.
Pommerening, along with his wife Cheryl, have two adult children and four grandchildren.
Then-District 202 Superintendent of Schools Walter Niehus started the homecoming parade in 1952 to celebrate Plainfield High School’s homecoming week. It has grown over the years into a community event bringing the whole town together.
After the parade, all PHSCC alumni and friends are invited to attend the PHS Alumni Tea in the PHSCC Main Cafeteria where the Class of 1973 will be honored, 24120 W. Fort Beggs Drive.
The 2023 PHS Athletic Hall of Fame inductees include Jordan Ellingwood ‘13 (wrestler), Ali Foster ‘12 (tennis), Brigid Hanley ‘12 (basketball), and Jenna Moody ‘13 (track and 2012 softball team). The inductees will be inducted at the PHSCC varsity home football game on September 29.
The Annual PHS All Class Reunion will be held from 6:30 – 11:30 p.m. at the Plainfield American Legion Hall, 24741 W Renwick Road, Plainfield. The All Class Reunion was started for those alums that were not attending a milestone reunion that year. There will be a cash bar and $10 admission will be charged at the door. All alumni and friends of homecoming are welcome.
